Sneakerhead Spotlight: Sam aka @sftwofive
Question 1: What’s in your current sneaker rotation?
Sam: Jordan Retro Shadow 2.0s, Yeezy Alien Blue 380s, Yeezy Mono Ice 350s, Jordan 1 Volt Golds, Jordan Raging Bull 5s, Jordan Racer Blue 3s, Jordan 1 mid SE - Luka Doncic Pregame Pack - Mindfulness.
Question 2: What’s the last pair you UNDS’d?
Sam: It was the Women's Jordan 1 High Zoom Comfort *Canyon Rust*. They were a random mall pickup when I stopped into JD Sports one day and they had a size that fit good. I was waiting for the perfect day to UNDS them and there's a particular Mac Miller shirt I got in like 2012 that ended up being an absolutely perfect combo to throw on with them. I UNDS’d them in Pittsburgh for the Mac memorial.
Question 3: What is your fave sneaker you currently own?
Sam: Bodega Dunk High Legend. Just take one look and you'll understand why!
Question 4: What is your must-have grail?
Sam: It's a super limited Air Force 1 designed and distributed by Westside Gunn. Its a bright pink shoe with a translucent pink sole, Blue toebox and gold swoosh. Quick rant. March 6th 2021 is one of those days I'll never forget. It was the grand opening of Westside Gunns’ flagship store in the Galleria Mall in Buffalo, NY. It was also the first time I ever hit on a pair from Finishline, the University Blue 1s. First pair I ever fist pumped and yelled "let's go" to myself when I saw the W lol. But anyways that was the day that Gunns store was opening at 9am. The same day I had to go pick up my UBs at finishline upstairs at the same mall between 1 and 3pm. So I decided to go to the mall like 730/8am an hour before westside Gunns store was set to open. There was already 300ish people in line when I got there. Ok whatever. I'm waiting till at least 1 anyways so I end up making friends and shooting the shit with everybody in line for 4 hours. It gets to 1pm and the line hasn't moved more than 10-15%. I go upstairs and grab my UBs and had everybody I was by in line asking to see them. I flex them for a minute and get back to waiting. Fast forward to us getting into the store and it's about 5pm. There are no Flygod AF1s left but the Flygod himself stuck around and shot the shit with us took pictures. There was still a bunch of dope merch I had to cop and I was able to cop one of my favorite shoes of the year and meet one of my favorite artists, someone who is putting my city on globally, while staring at my grails from behind the glass of the one they had on display there. Last thing I'll say is that I got into Griselda and Westside Gunn during the beginning of the isolation and his music really helped me. I got into sneakers within 6 months of me starting to listen to Gunn. If you listen to his music you understand how unique and brilliant he is and not only that, he is a GIANT sneakerhead. So I always associate sneakers and Gunns music with a part of my life that helped me get thru dark times.
Question 5: What got you started in the sneaker game?
Sam: the Black/White ambush dunks. One of my best friends from college, Shunske, has always been a huge sneaker head so he posts shoes a lot on his IG. He's from Japan and when he was over here for school almost a decade ago (12-16) he had a storage unit full of kicks and I remember going to the galleria with him when the Foamposite Galaxy joints dropped. I remember right when I saw the ambush dunks on his page last holiday season I texted him right away inquiring about them. He then told me about SNKRS 🤬 and the rest is History!
Question 6: What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
Sam: My first 2 concerts were BackStreet Boys and NSYNC circa 2000.
Question 7: (optional) What do you do for a living?
Sam: I currently work in manufacturing of military equipment components. Lights and keyboards mostly. I also wait tables a few nights a week while I save for a house.
Question 8: Where can people follow you on social media? YouTube, SnapChat, IG etc.
Sam: You can follow me on both twitter and IG @sftwofive and on Snapchat @depez.poopsie
